Recently, the annual wedding report was released and I thought I would take a brief moment to highlight the section on wedding planners.

Many times excited couples get engaged and are enthusiastic about taking on the process of wedding planning, but with hectic work schedules and the increase of lifestyle hobbies and activities the report clearly shows that couples are looking to relinquish more of the planning responsibilities to a professional.

The almost 40% increase in Full Service Planning shows that couples truly value their time and are entrusting a wedding planner to oversee much more of the planning work and details.

Real Wedding: Melissa & Nate

Melissa & Nate contacted us because they attending a friend's wedding that we coordinated the Summer prior to their July 2011 wedding. The vendor line up was practically identical with the exception of a few.

It was very easy to work with them as they simply wanted a fun and elegant affair with a tropical flair. Melissa & Nate initially stopped by a New Year's Eve Wedding that we were coordinating at Paradise Point to see us an action a second time as well as confirm their love of the venue.

It was a beautiful ceremony filled with love and the reception included a fantastic buffet dinner, cupcakes, and lots of dancing!

Such a sweet and romantic dress. It was stunning on Melissa.

The Birds of Paradise were carried throughout the wedding from the invitations, to the seating cards and of course in the bouquets and centerpieces. The flowers were the main source of color while the linens and dresses were all ivory.

Real Rehearsal: Nancy & Kyung

This is the first rehearsal post for us but I decided that it's the "norm" to post engagement and obviously photos from weddings but it's rare that the rehearsal and rehearsal breakfast/brunch/lunch/dinner are photographed so this was a great opportunity to showcase a couple and their excitement right before the big day.

Nancy & Kyung A.K.A Nan & Ky, were beyond awesome to work with. Granted, I had to push them to do their "homework assignments", they knew what they wanted. A shabby chic (not too shabby) beach (not too beachy) wedding. That is JUST what they got. Real Wedding: Nora & Gordon

When the bride, Nora, hired me for this July 3rd wedding, I knew I was in for a treat. She was spunky but laid back and decisive yet inquisitive. This was my first wedding at a winery so I was very excited to get the experience being surrounded by beautiful vineyards. The groom, Gordon is in the industry of working for a major wine producer so it was extremely fitting that the wedding was held at South Coast Winery. The bride expressed to me that they had guests that were really fun and they really wanted to have a great party to commemorate their love. We certainly achieved that.

We began with a ceremony at the Rose Arbor and then moved the cocktail hour and reception to the Courtyard. At a certain point in the evening (due to noise ordinances) all of the vendors pitched in and moved the DJ equipment into the Barrel Room, almost seamlessly. No worries there, the party continued without a hitch. It was a great event and it was a pleasure working with the couple and all parties involved.

It was only fitting that the tables were named after different varieties of wine.

Real Wedding: Shana & Todd

Shana and Todd came to us with a clear vision in mind. They were planning a wedding! Yes, we know, that's what we do, that is the business we are in, wedding planning! What was slightly different is that the total guest count would be 5 (including the bride & groom). Yes, you read that correctly F-I-V-E! When we heard that, we instantly knew we had to assist in planning this wedding. The thought of such an intimate affair was so heart warming and exciting.

It was so much fun collaborating with the vendors and the bride & groom on how everything would take place. The couple knew right away that they would hold the reception dinner at their favorite restaurant. They are regulars at the Wine Vault & Bistro and the owners and employees know them by name. It was an awesome experience.

Shana knew that she wanted everything to tie together so she made sure that her guests (her brother and future in-laws) were all color coordinated with the wedding, which consisted of white and teal.

I love this photo! The bride stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. There in the background, hangs a painting of Alcazar Gardens, same place as her wedding ceremony. Uncanny!

Such a beautiful and classic photo!

Todd was very much involved in the wedding planning and was so excited to be marrying his beautiful bride!

These bells were the perfect touch for the ceremony. Balboa Park has bells that ring every 15 minutes so it was a fitting match.

Just weeks before the garden was pretty barren, everything bloomed just in time to create a beautiful ambiance for the intimate ceremony.

ONe of my favorite details of this wedding was the bagpiper leading the family in a parade to the Prado for cocktails prior to heading over to the dinner reception at the Wine Vault & Bistro.

Shana's brother so wonderfully coordinated with the color scheme of the wedding.

It was a real joy & pleasure working with this couple. They went on to have two additional wedding celebrations in Lewiston & Holyoke!

Theme: The Dyer Love ~ which consisted of all things with their custom logo and coincidentally "The Sweetest Day" ~ Sweetest Day is celebrated each year on the third Saturday of October. Although often thought of by many as a second Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day is actually a day meant to celebrate all the people who make your life special. It’s an occasion to make someone happy, a chance to celebrate and give gifts to relatives, friends, and associates.

An & Chris had one very big concern, the restaurant in which they would hold the reception. Upon hiring me they explained how it absolutely had to be transformed. They were having trouble visualizing it as anything other than what it was, a traditional Chinese restaurant with mint green lazy Susan's atop the round tables used for serving the food, the modge-podge of banquet chairs, and the two different types of carpet. After a site visit to the restaurant I could completely understand their concern and instinctively put my creative thinking cap on and became excited with the possibilities of what the space would look like which in turn got them excited as well. We worked for months coming up with table layouts, linen options, lighting options, you name it we discussed it.

They were such a fun couple to work with. Most meetings included lots of laughter about all of the ideas and projects the bride wanted to include. The couple did a wonderful job with carrying out their theme from the custom wedding website, magnet save-the-dates, and several different stationery items everything coordinated seamlessly. You definitely knew this was the "Dyer" wedding.

This fashionista bride loves her some shoes...An has a terrific sense of fashion and style. In fact, she even has a blog about it Haute Pink Pretty

This photo is one of my favorite's. It's classically beautifully and the Mother of the Bride was so adorable.

Yup, our bride got to meet a celebrity. Rev Run from Run DMC. I was super excited when I saw this photo. With so much going on that day the bride totally forgot to tell me he was at her hotel, Se San Diego.

The ceremony was held at the Immaculata. It's an absolutely beautiful church.

"The Sweetest Day" wouldn't be complete without the sweetest treats.
Guests absolutely LOVED the candy buffet. I think a record was broken for how quickly the candy was cleared from this buffet.

Details, details, details!

Along with the custom lighting design was also the matching dance floor decal. This couple was all about the details and carrying the them throughout the wedding.

This restaurant was truly transformed into a ballroom. The draping, lighting, and linens made a huge impact. We decided to go minimal with the centerpieces as not to interfere with the family style dinner service and were thrilled with the outcome of these snapdragon and curly willow gems.

We absolutely adore the Dyer's and wish them a lifetime of love and happiness!

Real Wedding: Erica & Jose

We recently had the honor of coordinating an April wedding for Erica & Jose. They are a delightful couple and were super easy to work with. Erica originally had a specific vision in mind based around her bridesmaids dresses but unfortunately there was an issue with them when they arrived and she had to rethink her idea. This easy going bride took the dilemma with a grain of salt and sought out new dresses. We assisted her in ways she could still incorporate the look and feel of her vision and have it still work with the new dresses. Her main goal was that everything be "pretty" and also wanted a very romantic feel.

This couple and their guest really knew how to party. They kept the dance floor packed until midnight and had a great time taking photos in the photo booth. One of the highlights of the night was when I was standing near the edge of the dance floor and the bride came and flung her flip flops off next to me so that she could really get into a dancing groove.

It was surely a celebration that their friends and family will remember for years to come.

The couple rode in a classic car with suicide doors and got some fun shots in and around it. We love when couples have fun with their transportation options.

Erica made such a beautiful bride and they are a beautiful couple together.

Michael's Flower Girls did a wonderful job on all of the florals.

We upgraded the linens for a softer more luxurious look and added a plum taffeta napkin to tie in with the flowers in the centerpieces.

Grove Pastry Shop created this beautiful cake. All Red Velvet!

The couple opted for a Sweetheart table on a riser. The flowers from the ceremony doubled as reception decor atop the riser.

Love the way the lighting transforms a space!

1) It'll save you money. You'll spend less on gifts, flowers, limos, and other costs you were planning to pick up (like hair & makeup).

2) It means less stress. Fewer opinions to consider, and you wan't have to herd a big group from hotel to photo session to ceremony to reception.

3) It makes the chosen ladies feel even more special. After all, they'll know you really wanted them to be in your bridal party.

Real Wedding: Darnell & Tshawnda

For the first time ever, Oh So Chic started off the year with a New Year's Eve and New Year's Day Wedding. We were lucky enough to be a part of two wonderful celebrations with two wonderful couples.

Darnell & Tshawnda were married on January 1, 2011 at The North Chapel. Tshawnda works in the medical field for the Navy and Darnell is training for the Olympic US wrestling team. Needless to say, these two were pretty busy with work during the planning process but they were very easy going and a pleasure to work with. They informed me that almost all of their 55 or so guests would be coming in from out of state so I knew it would be a day full of love and indeed it was.

A reflection: Happy 5th Birthday!

Oh So Chic turned 5 years old this week and I couldn't be more excited about it. It's been a wonderful 5 years and each year gets even better. I'm so proud to call myself a wedding planner and I truly, truly, truly LOVE what I do. With each wedding my love grows fonder.

I frequently get asked the question "How did you get into wedding planning?" It is a question that sometimes will catch me off guard because part of me has no clue. Yes, I know, that sounds crazy. I wasn't a bride turned coordinator (I'm not married), it wasn't always my dream to become a wedding planner (when I was a little girl I wanted to be a doctor), I wasn't a little flower girl in every one's wedding (like on all of the wedding movies). So to give you some insight, here is just a little bit of my story...

How I got started!
I've always been the type to want to throw a party. I vividly remember one year in middle school when my friend and I decided to throw a party at my house. I was so excited and the first thing on my "to do" list was getting the decor planned out. I wanted the colors to be black, gold, and purple. As I type this I am laughing at how even back then, I was so detailed about how things would all come together. Needless to say, some very large balloons, gold metallic streamer curtains, and "Dear Mama" by 2 Pac on repeat, I hadn't honed my craft as an event planner just yet but there was certainly one on the horizon.

It was in high school that I realized just how creative of a person I was. I took ceramics, fashion design, and visual merchandising, and it was around my sophomore year that I decided I wanted to enter the field of Interior Design. When I left for college, I attended design school and majored in Interior Design. Long story short, while working in the Interior Design field many of my co-workers were getting married. This caught my attention and I started purchasing stacks of wedding magazines. I became so intrigued with the idea that wedding/party planning could actually become a career that I began to immerse myself in all things wedding related. The books, the tv shows, the workshops; you name it I had to do it, see it, or have it. I was able to assist with planning a friends wedding which was all I needed to get me headed in the direction I knew I was destined to go.

After moving to San Diego and entering a few Event Management and "Become a Wedding Consultant" programs I began interning and shadowing some of San Diego's finest coordinators and really got to see the In's and out's of the industry. It was in 2006 that I decided to start my own company, thus becoming, Oh So Chic Wedding & Event Planning.

How far I've come!
From working full time and running a full time business, I've had my fair share of literally shedding blood, sweat, and tears to get to the level of knowledge and experience that I now have in my 6th year of being in the business and 5th year of my owning my own business. I am truly blessed to be in an industry of so many passionate and creative people. You know you are doing something you love when your heart sings while doing it.

It takes time, patience, purpose, and determination to build not only a business but meaningful relationships. From magazine features to awards based on client reviews. I am truly humbled and exceptionally grateful for where I am today.

Where I would like to go!
People say "The sky is the limit" but I don't want any limitations prohibiting me from going anywhere. I hope to not only continue to make wedding dreams come true but also create beautiful social events and one day expand the company and incorporate my interior design skills by designing beautiful nurseries and children's rooms.

A time to give thanks...

Wow, I can't believe it's already Thanksgiving. It feels like just yesterday we were ringing in 2010, yet a new year is almost upon us. This time of year seems to mean more as the years go by and I get older. It tends to make me reflect back on the triumphs and the trials faced throughout the year. I am thankful for so many things but this Thanksgiving I would like to give thanks to my supportive friends, family, and clients.

Sean & Yvette got married on one of the most popular days of the year October 10, 2010 (10.10.10) which we affectionately called "Perfect 10". Self Proclaimed: {Art Geek + Economics Nerd = LOVE} This couple was beyond a joy to work for. I knew briefly after meeting them that this was sure to be a wedding to remembered. Sean & Yvette met via an online dating site (HINT: "this will be...an everlasting love") in 2006 and were engaged New Year's Eve 2008.

The Wedding: Married at The Bristol in downtown San Diego, Yvette had a vision in mind of a contemporary and classy, yet simple wedding. With a color scheme of black, white, with pops of color we were able to bring this vision to life.

The ceremony was held on the second floor loft of the hotel.

The very personal and custom ceremony that Bethel created for the couple included a stone blessing ceremony, unity candle and even a reading by the Groom's super adorable grandparents.

The Starlight Ballroom is a unique setting because the roof opens up over the dance floor. The Bride & Groom along with their guests danced the night away under the stars.

Who doesn't love a sweetheart table?!

Sean is a huge San Francisco Giants fan and his wonderful bride insisted on a groom's cake that reflected his love of the game and favorite team. In addition to the cake, they endearingly labeled bags of peanuts with tags that read "Buy me some peanuts..." and Cracker Jack bags labeled "...and Cracker Jacks!" The table was definitely a hit!

Each table was named after a feature or personality trait that the couple loves about each other: Loud Belly Chuckle, Natural Grace, Fearless optimism, just to name a few. The names were placed on different photos from the couples engagement session.

The couple lives in Orange County so the majority of their guests were from there and Los Angeles so almost all of the guests stayed at the hotel. The couple served late night snacks such as; quesadillas, beef skewers, and egg rolls. Guests took the custom labeled cookies back to their hotel room for a late night sweet treat.

With the groom being the artsy type, in lieu of a traditional guest book the couple opted for a canvas with a tree painted on by the groom. Guests then used stamp pads to apply their finger prints which created the leaves on the tree and signed their name, thus creating a "family" tree. Such a unique and creative idea.

Every so often I receive cards, e-mails, or phone calls from clients that want to show their appreciation for the hard work and dedication Oh So Chic has put into their event. These always do and will continue to humble me and show me that these tokens of gratitude are why I give all I have to make these events successful and what only one could have envisioned in their dreams. Recently, I had the honor of spending an evening with one of my favorite couples who recently returned from their honeymoon and I received a beautiful card from them.

and on the inside was a personal, hand-written note that read:

Real Party: Brown & Blue Baby Shower

Oh So Chic is known for planning weddings but what you may not know is we also love to throw a good party too. When we found out one our closest friends was coming in from Texas to have her baby shower here, with her family and friend's, we were thrilled that she asked us to come up with the decor. The only request was that we use the colors brown & blue to represent her baby boy on the way. Here are a few photos:

THE VENUE: A friend of the family's beautiful backyard and interior of the house

THE TREATS: A Sweet Treats station filled with Mike & Ike's, Peanut M & M's, Sour Worms, Chocolate Malt Balls, and yogurt covered pretzels. Candy buffets are always a hit with both young and old. The cupcakes tied into the color scheme and were adorned with little edible strollers and baby bottles.

THE FLOWERS: I picked up these cute brown and blue boxes at Michael's and took them to the florist to create a beautiful arrangement. My main request: Monkey Tails (the little brown curly-q's). Love those!

Tabletop Design Contest

We recently had the pleasure of participating in a tabletop design contest sponsored by Bridal Insider at the Wedding Party Bridal Show held on October 31st at the Hyatt Mission Bay. It is always fun having full creative control over a design and getting to go "Wild" with it. For this particular design we used an existing inspiration board that had been created as a concept for another event but the client went with another design. Since this one was so sassy and fun we decided to bring it to life.

With the current style trending toward the return of animal print we decide to walk on the "Wild" side. Our main element was the Zebra print linen.

Sparkle, glitz, and glam!!! Yup, that's what we were going for!

When we asked one of our favorite florist, Tessilk Flowers, to create something for us she jumped on board and knew exactly what would make a statement without the table being overdone. The soft elegant arrangement of orchids and hydrangea was of course adorned with a little bit of sparkle.

We added a bright colored orchid to the faux cocktail as a fun accent.

In lieu of votives or tealight candles we added water and floating candles to the blue crackle candle holder. Loved these little gems and the color went perfectly with the napkins.

Accented the table number with a crystal edged frame and added the signature zebra print as a border.

Once again, we custom made the menu cards to reflect the color scheme and created the zebra band and accented it with an adorable black bow and crystal.

We couldn't be more pleased with the final product!

Real Wedding: Meghan & Philip

The couple: Meghan & Philip; sweet, kind, funny, organized, loving are just a few words to describe this bride & groom. They contacted me a few months prior to their wedding and were such a joy right from the start. Although, they are local, Meghan actually hired me over the phone and we communicated via e-mail until just weeks before the wedding when I met with them to do the final walk through at Levyland. They were very easy going and just wanted to make sure that their day would be extra special and beauftiful. Indeed, it was!

There is a train track that passes by the venue and everytime the train went by everyone chanted for the couple kiss. It was adorable.

There were many little personal details and homemade touches. Meghan's dad was very hands-on and even built the arch that Meghan & Phil exchanged vows under and he even built screens to hide an unsightly wall. The screens were then being donated to their church.

Alongside the cake were assorted chocolates and sweet treats such as donut holes. The entire table was a hit!

The furniture that comes along with Levyland was utilized outside as a lounge area for guests during cocktail hour and the dance portion of the reception. Many guests hung out the entire evening in the cozy area.

Real Wedding: Chris & Asia

We are thrilled that the new issue of San Diego Style Weddings has hit newsstands. We not only have an awesome new ad we are thrilled that one of our couples was selected as a "Real Wedding".

Asia & Chris were a wonderful couple to work with. They were so sweet and really just wanted an intimate affair with their closest friends and family. I loved the theme of their wedding, it was cooking! Asia & Chris love to cook and incorporated it into their wedding by having part of their engagement session shot in their kitchen and having each table the name of an herb. Guests loved going from table to table seeing basil, garlic, salt, etc incorporated in the centerpieces. The favors were homemade tins of BBQ seasoning rub.

They were very precise in what they wanted and how they wanted it executed. With the groom working in the event industry in Las Vegas he wanted this wedding to be "perfect". We were so relieved and excited when he gave us kudos at the end of the event.

Diamond Fruit Cake??

Since April's stone is the Diamond, I figured this post is quite fitting. This is the most expensive cake that I have ever seen, a Diamond Fruit Cake, costing $1.65 million. It was created by a pastry chef in Tokyo. After six months of designing and one month to execute it, this cake is studded with 223 small diamonds and the rest of the cake is edible.

Nicole and Doran were a fun loving couple who knew exactly what they wanted when they hired me as their coordinator. They were planning for a small wedding of no more then 50 guests to be held on a Friday evening in August. Their colors were were shades of blue, yellow, ivory and black. They wanted to keep the look simple.

Below is a linen chart to help you select the right size linens for the tables that your venue provides or that you are getting from a rental company. More often then not people end up with linens approx. six inches off of the ground. No matter how many people tell you it isn't necessary for them to go to the floor, I strongly disagree. It is completely worth it to pay the extra couple of dollars to not see the table legs and to add that extra touch of elegance to your event. Hope this helps:

I was recently at the Bridal Bazaar and came across this booth that seemed to be extremely popular. When I approached I realized they were giving away samples of a new brand of champagne premium cocktails called Dirty Blonde Cocktails. Naturally, I had to have a sample since everyone seemed to be raving about it. They have four refreshing flavors. These would make a great gift for bridesmaids, favors, or even for bachelorette parties and bridal showers. Viva Las Vegas!

I recently took a trip to Las Vegas for a wedding conference for wedding professionals. I was so excited to find out that it would be held in one of my favorite cities. Las Vegas has the most beautiful hotels and everything is usually under one roof. I went with my fellow planner friends and we stayed at the gorgeous Venetian hotel. I love to see the decor in the different hotels. Here are some photos that I took when we wandered over to the Wynn.

"Parasol Down"- This is great inspiration for a wedding or party theme. The rich colors would make a bold statement.

This would be a gorgeous setting for an evening garden wedding. White lights are always an affordable decor item. You can also have your florist create pomander balls to hang from trees if you are using an outdoor venue.

There was a restaurant/bakery inside the Wynn called Sugar & Ice that had their cakes displayed along the wall at one of the entrances to the hotel where the shop was located. I love how the display cases were framed like works of art.

What can I say...Summer is coming to a close. This year is flying by. Before you know it the holidays will be upon us. This summer was challenging, fun, stressful, and productive. Although I do regret not spending a relaxing day on the beach like I vowed I would do, it was overall a great summer for business. There were new obstacles to overcome, great vendors that we worked with, beautiful venues that we had the chance to experience and best of all, wonderful couples that are continuing on their journey of life together. Each year is a new learning experience and each year the couples and their families validate my choice of the wonderful career that I have chosen. A huge thank you to all those who give me encouragement, love, and support. Best wishes to all and I look forward to the upcoming clients that I will have the good fortune of working with to make their dream day a reality.

Azure and Delon were a fun couple to work with. They knew exactly what they wanted and how they wanted it. The couple had been together 13 years before tying the knot. They knew that they wanted to get married at their home and waited until they had purchased one so that the memories from their wedding would be even more special. It happens all too often that couples don't properly budget for their wedding and they want to wheel and deal on everything. Although it seems like when you say the word "wedding" everything seems completely overpriced and unreasonable in some cases vendors truly are worth their fee and more. A lot of the time they are really undercharging what their true value really is. When it comes to a day as important as your wedding day keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Sometimes the best deal isn't always worth what you get in return.

Tammy & Jill were a wonderful couple to work with. I couldn't have been more thrilled with the outcome of the event. I once again had the opportunity to create a tablescape design for San Diego Style Weddings Magazine. The photo shoot took place at La Costa Resort & Spa and I had the pleasure of teaming up with Peggi Walker of Metro Floral to create the design. Elegant Events Party Rentals was so gracious to supply me with several of the products they rent out and Garrett of Garrett Photography took the photos that I know will come out so wonderful. Above is the inspiration board that I created when coming up with a concept and below are a few teaser photos. Be sure to pic up a copy of the magazine when it hits stands in October.

I recently hosted an intimate baby shower for one of my best friend's who is expecting her third baby boy. I was honored when her and her husband asked me to be the baby's Godmother. Since this is her third boy I decided not to go with the "typical" baby theme in a blue color scheme. I took a more modern approach with Black, White, Lime Green, and an accent of Cranberry Red.

The shower was held at El Torito Restaurant and everyone enjoyed the food. Guests signed a mat framed ultrasound photo and received Satin bags adorned with an "It's a boy" charm and filled with Ghiradelli Luxe milk chocolate. A great time was had by all.

Great new service!

I received an e-mail awhile back for this great new service that allows you to create a slideshow with you as the narrator. You can also have guests call in and record a message about the memories they have from your event. It would be great to put up on a wedding website with photos from a pre-wedding event such as an engagement party. This is a great idea and I decided to make one of my own just for fun. The only flaw with this service is there is a slight pause in the narration before going to the next slide. Check out Yodio for yourself!

New logo, new business cards, new color! I'm so excited to reveal our new logo and our new business cards (which haven't arrived just yet). It was long over due for us to get a new logo, mostly due to printing and technical issues with the old one but nonetheless it is a fresh new look for Oh So Chic. You may still see some old marketing material and such with the logo as we want to be "green" and not waste perfectly good paper items.

Miss Teen San Diego Pageant

I had the pleasure of being a judge this past weekend for the Miss Teen San Diego Pageant. It was such an honor to be amongst a group of talented and smart young ladies. The pageant was put on by Nationals which pride themselves on "Pageantry with Purpose". The wonderful thing about this event is that there were no height or weight requirements, no talent portion, and no swimsuit competition. This gives all girls the chance to participate and build confidence and self esteem. There was an interview portion held on Saturday at the Westin Emerald Plaza and the actual pageant was at Crawford High Educational Complex. There were 4 divisions: Jr. Pre-Teen 7-9, Pre-Teen 10-12, Jr. Teen 13-15, and Teen 16-19. I was a judge for the Teen division and had the chance to interview approx 75 teenagers. It was a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

New Look!

We have been gone for a little while but we'll be back soon. We are currently working on a new logo to freshen up our look and planning fabulous events for some of you and hopefully more of you in the coming months. This is very exciting as it has been something that has been a long time coming. We are also very flattered to have been asked to be a judge in the Miss Teen San Diego Pageant this coming weekend. Real Wedding: Olivia & Rocky

I had the pleasure of coordinating Olivia & Rocky's big day. The ceremony was held at the Immaculata and the reception was at The Loew's Coronado Bay Resort. They were a sweet couple to work for and truly showed how grateful they were for the day. Their love radiated through the ballroom. I recently had the pleasure of helping a good friend plan her best friend's baby shower. We went through a few different ideas before we decided that this mom-to-be wouldn't enjoy a standard baby shower with cheesy games and silly name tags. So we decided on the Revive Day Spa as the location. We included a list of services offered at the spa in the invitation so that when people called in to rsvp they would also request what service they wanted. We are back from the Associate of Bridal Consultants annual conference and we had a wonderful time. It was a great and educational experience. It was an action packed 3 days. The host hotel was the beautiful Fairmont Newport Beach. From classes and seminars to breakfast and lunches it was a wonderful experience.

World renowned Colin Cowie was the keynote speaker and he lived up to his name and reputation by showing us photos and taking us through his design process for events. The highlight of the conference for me was getting to talk with and sit in on a class with Mary Dann from the hit show on Style Network, Whose Wedding is it Anyway? She has always been my favorite wedding planner and I want to be like her when I grow up. Lol. Here are some photos from the 3 day event.

Well we are in for a busy week. Today we have a wedding at the lovely Loew's Coronado Bay Resort and then we are off to Newport Beach for the Association of Bridal Consultants, Business of Brides Annual Conference. We are so excited to see Keynote Speaker Colin Cowie. It will be an educational and inspiring couple of days. Last year the conference was in Orlando, FL. A great time was had and we came back refreshed and motivated for another year of business. I'll be sure and take photos to bring back to share with all of you. There are many times when I hear couples say they are doing something themselves or they have a family member, friend, or friend of a friend handling certain aspects of the wedding. The examples above are only a couple of things that come to mind. "Know when to hire a professional", this is your wedding day! When you are spending the kind of money it costs to have an event like this, you have a vision of how you want the day to run as well as how you want to remember it. It's important to know when you need someone who is an expert in the field.

Things that should be done by a professional are: photography, videography, cake, and music. If you want DIY projects to work on try: invitations, seating cards, favors, and even some decor items. These are much more practical and will also add personal elements to your wedding.
