Real Wedding: Olivia & Rocky

I had the pleasure of coordinating Olivia & Rocky's big day. The ceremony was held at the Immaculata and the reception was at The Loew's Coronado Bay Resort. They were a sweet couple to work for and truly showed how grateful they were for the day. Their love radiated through the ballroom. Here are a few fabulous photos from the day taken by the great Kim Seidl.

Thank you Olivia & Rocky for allowing me to be a part of your special day. I wish you the best in your future together.

Spa Themed Shower

I recently had the pleasure of helping a good friend plan her best friend's baby shower. We went through a few different ideas before we decided that this mom-to-be wouldn't enjoy a standard baby shower with cheesy games and silly name tags. So we decided on the Revive Day Spa as the location. We included a list of services offered at the spa in the invitation so that when people called in to rsvp they would also request what service they wanted. Below are a few photos that were graciously taken by

Welcome Home!

We are back from the Associate of Bridal Consultants annual conference and we had a wonderful time. It was a great and educational experience. It was an action packed 3 days. The host hotel was the beautiful Fairmont Newport Beach. From classes and seminars to breakfast and lunches it was a wonderful experience.

World renowned Colin Cowie was the keynote speaker and he lived up to his name and reputation by showing us photos and taking us through his design process for events. The highlight of the conference for me was getting to talk with and sit in on a class with Mary Dann from the hit show on Style Network, Whose Wedding is it Anyway? She has always been my favorite wedding planner and I want to be like her when I grow up. Lol. Here are some photos from the 3 day event.

We'll be back!

Well we are in for a busy week. Today we have a wedding at the lovely Loew's Coronado Bay Resort and then we are off to Newport Beach for the Association of Bridal Consultants, Business of Brides Annual Conference. We are so excited to see Keynote Speaker Colin Cowie. It will be an educational and inspiring couple of days. Last year the conference was in Orlando, FL. A great time was had and we came back refreshed and motivated for another year of business. I'll be sure and take photos to bring back to share with all of you. In the meantime, feel free to contact us via phone or e-mail. It may take longer then our standard 24 hours to get back to you but we promise to be in touch.

Nugget!

French fries anytime are always a treat! Get with your caterer and see if you can get a couple of different dipping sauces. Ranch, BBQ Sauce, Ketchup....mmmm!

Know when to hire a professional!

There are many times when I hear couples say they are doing something themselves or they have a family member, friend, or friend of a friend handling certain aspects of the wedding. The examples above are only a couple of things that come to mind. "Know when to hire a professional", this is your wedding day! When you are spending the kind of money it costs to have an event like this, you have a vision of how you want the day to run as well as how you want to remember it. It's important to know when you need someone who is an expert in the field.

Things that should be done by a professional are: photography, videography, cake, and music. If you want DIY projects to work on try: invitations, seating cards, favors, and even some decor items. These are much more practical and will also add personal elements to your wedding.

Love note from Allie & Jermaine

I received a lovely thank you card from a couple who just recently had their wedding at the Handlery Hotel & Resort in San Diego on 9/27. Look out for photos from their wedding soon:

DeShai,

Jermaine and I would like to thank you for all the time and effort you put in to make our wedding special. Everything turned out beautiful and we both were very happy. So thanks again & keep up the great work.

Best wishes,

Allie & Jermaine

A big thank you and congratulations to you two. You were a wonderful couple to work with and I was honored to be a part of it. Best wishes! San Diego Wedding

Nugget!

I've decided to start something I call a "nugget". It will just be a quick post with something that I came across and loved. It may or may not have a description or story behind it. Simple and plain, it's just something I'm a fan of. So without further ado, here is my first Nugget!

I'm a huge fan of vegetable crudites and couldn't help but love this little personal treasure of vegetable goodness. Ask your caterer if this is something they can do for your wedding. Your guests are sure to rave about them.

SDSW Weddings Magazine Photos

Back in July, we posted about how excited we were to be designing a tablescape for San Diego Style Weddings Magazine. Well, the magazine is now available on newsstands. We had the pleasure of teaming up with Michael's Flower Girl to create our spa theme centerpiece for the design. The team of florists executed our vision to perfection. Click here to see our inspiration design board used to make this table come to life. Don't forget to pick up a copy of the magazine! It's packed full of great locations, great vendors, and awesome ideas to help you create a vision for your special day.

Stay tuned for more details about how you can vote for our table design!

Tipping

Some of the most frequently asked questions I get from Brides, Grooms, and their families are: "Which of my vendors should receive a tip?" This is truly a personal decision. If you feel as though your vendors have done a wonderful job in making your day special and run smoothly then it is courteous to tip them (but not required). "How much should I tip?" Below is a guide on what is standard in the wedding industry. Keep in mind this is only a guide and feel free to tip however you see fit as well as what is in your budget. "Who should distribute them?" If you have hired a wedding coordinator, this is something that should be done by them. If not, a parent or the groom will usually handle this. Below is a standard guideline of percentages.

Bartenders 10% of total liquor bill
Bathroom Attendants $1.00-$2.00 per guest
Catering Manager $100-$200
Coat Check Attendants $1.00-$2.00 per guest
Makeup/Hairstylist 15-20% of fee
Limo/Bus Driver 15% of fee
Musicians/DJ 15% of fee Ceremony Music $25-50 per musician
Photographer/Videographer 10-15% of fee
Valet/Parking Attendants 15% valet; $1-2 per car
Waitstaff $20+ each (distributed by banquet manager)
Wedding Coordinator 10-15% of fee

Busy September!

We'll be back to blogging soon. We have some exciting new photos, products, and wedding ideas to come. Stay tuned!

Wedding Graffiti is a wonderful way to personalize your day! From placing it on your transportation to the dance floor this is a great way to add a personal touch. This art from Wonderful Graffiti is available for walls, windows, floors, favors, and more. It is removable so that you don't have to worry about damaging the property at your venue.

Samples can be ordered to customize the look with your color scheme. Choose from the pre-made designs or create your own.

Say Cheers for Cheap!

Champagne flutes are one of those items that people always tell you that you have to get for your wedding. They have come a long way over the years and we have seen our fair share of them. The good thing is now they don't have to break the bank. These stylish flutes from Crate & Barrel are the perfect solution to add a little of your personal style to the wedding. This small investment is worth it to not have to say cheers to your new husband with the hotels not-so-stylish flutes. Mara and Edge are our personal favs.

Going Green?

The Occasions Group

Are you trying to go green for your wedding? There are several ways to incorporate "green" elements from the flowers to the caterer. One of the easiest ways to achieve this is through your invitations. Made from recycled paper, you can feel good about selecting an invitation from this great collection "Naturally Ever After" that is offered by Invitations by Dawn.

Votive Holders

Add some color and a different element to your reception decor. These Capiz shell votive holders from Estilo Weddings are a perfect way to show off your color scheme in a whole new light.

Ring Pillows!

Looking for a ring pillow? I constantly get brides asking me about them and where to get them. I came across these while being sucked into this thing called the worldwide web, and fell in love with them. They aren't your typical white satin pillow. They come in mostly white, cream, and black but the sculptural floral applique comes in fun metallic colors as well. Check them out!
